Output-1 Capacity building of farmer producer organizations

Maharashtra Agribusiness Network Magnet Project in the state is being implemented in all districts through Magnet Society in collaboration with Asian Development Bank and Department of Cooperatives and Marketing. According to Maharashtra Vision-2030, the growth rate of agriculture sector is expected to be 5 percent per annum. The purpose of MAGNET project is for increasing the income of farmers, improving the quality of horticulture and flower crops as well as increasing production and building infrastructure for storage and processing. The Magnet Project is considering the development of integrated value chains from production to distribution to consumers for a total of 15 major horticultural crops in the state such as Banana, Pomegranate, Orange, Sweet Orange, Custard Apple, Guava, Sapota, Strawberry, Okra, Chilly (Green & Red), Flowers, Mango, Lemon, Cashew Nut, Snake Gourd.

It has been designed under Output-1 for selected horticultural crops, the project will include setting up of nurseries, tissue culture projects, introduction of new varieties, capacity building of farmer producer organizations and value chain investors, GAP certification, pesticide residue testing, high density demonstration of intensive cultivation practices, post-harvest management, innovation in new product, research and development, lead organization SME connection, market development and promotion, promotion of new technology etc. are included. Also, to increase the income of producers through marketing system by creating supply chain of the crops included in the project, collection, marketing, value addition, capacity development, etc. will be implemented.
